OVERVIEW:
Good Charlotte is a punk/alternative rock band from Waldorf, Maryland. The band was created by twin brothers Joel and Benji Madden and their high school friends in 1996.
RECENT MEMBERS:
Joel is the lead vocalist and occasionaly plays the guitar. Benji is back-up vocals and lead guitarist. Billy Martin is the rhythm guitarist and plays keyboard. Paul Thomas plays bass and Dean Butterworth on drums.
FORMER MEMBERS:
Aaron Escolopio (1996-2001) on Drums
Chris Wilson (2002-2005) on Drums
TEMPORARY MEMBERS:
Dusty Brill - Played as a drummer with the band after Aaron Escolopio left the band.
Cyrus Bolooki - Played as a drummer at some dates with Good Charlotte on tour.
Josh Freese - Recorded the The Young and the Hopeless album as a drummer.
Robin Eckman of Elder Statesmen, Burn the Fields and Zonder - Played as a drummer on the tour for The Chronicles of Life and Death in Australia, Europe and Asia.
THE ALBUMS:
The bands first album was self titled Good Charlotte, followed by The Young and the Hopeless which went TRIPLE-PLATINUM in 2002, followed by The Chronicles of Life and Death, and their newest 2007 album Good Morning Revival. In the Young and the Hopeless album some of GC's songs thanked other bands for their punk/rock influences including....Green Day, Sum 41 and NOFX.
AWARDS:
In 2000 a Philadelphia based radio station played the song "LITTLE THINGS" before the CD was released, they played on Y100's nightly "Cage Match" (which is when songs are pitted against each other and listeners could vote on who they liked better each night) LITTLE THINGS one FIFTEEN nights in a row and beat out all of the bigger nmes in music at the time.
TOP SONGS:
Some of their top singles are: Little Things, The Motivation Proclamation (#65 in the US Top 100), Festival Song, I Don't Wanna Be In Love (Dance Floor Anthem), Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous (which won VMA's music choice award), The Anthem, Girls and Boys, The Young and the Hopeless, Hold on, Predictable, I Just Wanna Live, We Believe, The River, Misery, and Broken Hearts Parade.
Campaigns
Most of the band members are active members of PETA and support the Humane Treament of Animals. They appeared at PETA's 25th Anniversary Gala and Humanitarian Awards Show. At PETA's Gala they demonstrated against KFC's treatment of chickens and other animal cruelties. They also campaigned for research in "Aldo Fights AIDS" dogtag campaign.
WARP TOUR:
Good Charlotte went on tour with Simple Plan...and Green Day and have also performed with Mest.
